New Strength and Conditioning Coordinators named for PCPS

Pending approval from the Ponca City Board of Education, Mike Montano and Amie Huster have been named Strength and Conditioning Coordinators for Ponca City Public Schools.

Mike is currently employed by PCPS as a middle school math teacher at West Middle School. He has also coached the defensive line for the varsity level at Ponca City High School and served as strength coordinator for the Po-Hi and junior high football teams.

He worked at Sallisaw Public Schools from 2018-2022 as a middle school science teacher. He was also a football coach for the junior high and varsity levels. Prior to that he was employed at Quinton Public Schools and taught science and was an offensive and defensive line coach.

He received his bachelor’s degree in biology in 2016 from MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Ill.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to make an impact on our students and athletes,” said Montano. “I’m ready to help build a great foundation in the weight room and out on the field/court!”

Amie Huster has been employed by PCPS since 2019 as the head cheerleading coach and administrative assistant. She also served as an athletic strength and conditioning intern at Oklahoma State University from January 2023 through May 2023.

Prior to that she was a personal trainer at Life Time Fitness in Lenexa, Kan. from 2016-2018 and has served as a personal trainer at Bootcamp by Amie since 2011.

She received a bachelor’s degree in health and sports science from the United States Sports Academy in May.

“As a Ponca City High School alum, I have a heart for helping Po-Hi athletes become the best they are set to be,” said Huster. “I have worked with students at Po-Hi for the past three years and I have seen the challenges and the victories they have faced and enjoyed. I am excited to have this opportunity to train athletes, but also develop the discipline they gain in the weight room which will help them succeed in not only high school but also beyond those four years!”
