Ponca City Lincoln Elementary Class Adopts Baby Calf

SHARE NOW

A second grade class at Lincoln Elementary adopted a baby calf this year. Student Sentry Enninga gave a speech about the project to students at the school.

“Our class adopted a calf to help us learn where our milk comes from and how farmers help our world,” said Sentry. “We have learned where our calf is from and what their name is so far.”

Calf Bessie was born on Sept. 9, 2022, and weighed 80 pounds at birth from the Rottinghaus Holstein Farm in Seneca, Kan. Bessie was 31 inches tall when she was born.

“We also did a zoom video chat of a farm in Clear View, Mich. We learned about how farmers use their own crops to feed their cows. They milk their cows twice a day, and one full-grown Holstein cow can produce 3,000 gallons of milk in one year.”

Sentry said they will receive their next calf update during the month of December.
