12-year-old in critical condition after accident Friday afternoon

More information was released by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol on Saturday regarding an accident that occurred at 4 p.m. Friday afternoon on Prentice Road at South Avenue, 1 1/4 miles southeast of Ponca City in Kay County.

A 12-year-old male Ponca City Public Schools student was riding his bicycle southbound out of a steep private drive. The male individual struck the side of a 2021 Blue Bird Bus that was going east down a county road. The bus was driven by Lacey Gower, 50, of Ponca City.

The 12-year-old on the bicycle was flown by Air Evac to Westley Medical Center in Wichita, KS. He was later flown from Westley Medical Center to an unknown hospital in St. Louis, MO. He was listed in critical condition head, arm, leg, trunk internal and trunk external injuries.

Neither Gower or any of the eight young passengers of Ponca City Public Schools that were on the bus were injured.

The accident was investigated by Trooper Adam Beck #700 of the Kay County Detachment of Troop K. Assisted by Lt. Kirby Logan #62, Trooper Trent Cagle #380, Trooper Mike Wallace #708, Trooper Matt Stacy #889, Kay County Sheriff’s Department, Ponca City Fire Department, Ponca City EMS.
