72 Year Old Bartlesville Woman Dead After Officer-Involved Shooting

The Tulsa World is reporting that a Bartlesville woman has died following an officer-involved shooting last night.  Police were serving a search warrant for drugs at a home in the 1600 block of South Maple Avenue when gunfire broke out.  Officers said they were in the process of taking a man into custody when 72 year old Geraldine Townsend started shooting from another room.   Police returned fire, injuring Townsend who was transported to Jane Phillips Medical Center in critical condition.  Bartlesville police are now confirming that Townsend has died as a result of her injuries.

Two officers also suffered minor injuries in the incident.  One officer had a minor facial injury while another suffered a leg injury.

Townsend was the mother of the man that police were taking into custody. That man has been arrested on drug charges and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is conducting a full investigation of the shooting.
