746 new positive COVID-19 cases for Oklahoma on Thursday


746 new positive COVID-19 cases were reported by the Oklahoma State Department of Health on Thursday, Aug. 20. Oklahoma has seen 50,669 cases overall, and 7,265 cases are active.

Kay County saw an increase with four new COVID-19 cases. Kay County’s overall stats are 275 cases, 11 deaths and 235 recoveries. There are 29 active cases in the county. This includes 22 in Ponca City, four in Blackwell, two in Kaw City and one in Newkirk.

For new cases in local counties, there are 15 for Garfield County, 11 for Payne County, eight for Washington County, seven for Osage County, six for Pawnee County, five for Logan County and one for Grant County.

10 additional virus-related deaths were reported on Thursday to put Oklahoma’s death toll at 709. One death happened in the last 24 hours, and none of the new deaths were in northern Oklahoma. These include:

  • Four Oklahoma County men in the 65 or older age group.
  • A man and a woman in Lincoln County in the 65 or older age group.
  • Two Pittsburgh County women in the 65 or older age group.
  • A Cleveland County man in the 65 or older age group.
  • A Tulsa County man in the 50-64 age group.

OSDH is also reporting 648 new recoveries for Thursday, putting Oklahoma’s recovery total to 42,695. In order for a recovery to count, the recovered patient must not be deceased or hospitalized and it has been 14 days since their report.

Health officials report that 740,225 test results have returned negative. There have been 4,268 total hospitalizations, and 564 people are currently hospitalized.
