At 12:40 p.m. on Friday, the city of Newkirk lost an electric transformer at Pine Avenue/7th Street and River Road in the eastbound lane.
Due to the oil spill, the given area must be closed until a professional hazmat team can clean the area – this is the requirement for a hazardous spill from the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ). According to the City of Newkirk, this team should arrive early Friday evening. The oil from the electric transformer has been sent to Oklahoma City for testing these results should be back Monday or Tuesday.

Avoid traveling East on 7th Street around the south Curve to River Road until this area is cleaned.
