Ark City police arrested Jose DeJesus Ayala, an Arkansas City man early Friday morning after he was accused of threatening a female with a handgun.
Ayala was arrested on suspicion of felony aggravated assault, as well as disorderly conduct and violation of a protective order, both of which are misdemeanors.
Ayala booked into the Cowley County with bond set at $22,500 and remains in custody.
Officers were dispatched for a report of a man pointing a gun at another person. Ayala left the area prior to the officers arrival.
The female victim said she met the suspect, identified as Ayala, at the front door of her residence.
He produced the weapon, then said he wanted her and their son to return to his residence. She refused. He reportedly cycled the action of the gun and pointed it at her. Another person then called 911.
Police located Ayala while he was driving and conducted a traffic stop. No firearm was recovered from the scene. He was arrested and taken into custody.
