Budget Bill fails to pass in Oklahoma House

The Oklahoma House convened at 1:30 p.m. yesterday and began discussion on HB 1054X. The bill includes a $1.50 cigarette tax increase, a six cent fuel tax increase, an alcohol consumption tax and an increase in the Gross Production Tax. The bill puts an increase of four percent for 36 months on new wells and two percent on legacy wells. After several hours of debates, the bill only garnered a 71-27 vote. The bill required a supermajority of 76 votes from the House to pass.

Health care and oil and gas advocates have both packed the capitol yesterday to show their support and opposition of the legislation.
