SHARE NOW

Ponca City Public Schools reported 18 in-school positive COVID-19 cases last week. PCPS still has staff in their buildings and the KCHD still reports student positive to the district while on Distance Learning. In addition, Pioneer Technology Center reports district positives while they are on their A/B schedule.

The total number of in-school positive cases for the school year, both active and recovered is 157. 51 close contacts have become positive cases.

The COVID Alert System Risk Level decreased this week from 96.1-Red Level High Risk to 79.7-Red Level High Risk. The latest data represents the 4th week in a row Kay County has been in the Red Level High Risk Zone on the State Department of Education’s color-coded Risk Level Chart. The Red Level High Risk reflects an average of 50 or more new cases per day based on a 7-day rolling average per capita of 100,000. Based on the population of Kay County, the trigger to move into the Red Level High Risk is a weekly average of 21.77 new cases per day.

Even though PCPS is participating in distance learning, please contact your child’s principal if they test positive or if they are a close contact. PCPS says it’s important they continue to know dates that isolation s and quarantines end to determine release dates and to collect district data.

The Board of Education voted in a special meeting on Nov. 19 to move the entire school district to Distance Learning for the remainder of the semester, which ends on Dec. 18.

PCPS reminds everyone to keep working together to slow the spread!  Please continue to do your part and wear face coverings, watch distancing (stay 6’ apart at all times), wash hands frequently, avoid group gatherings, and stay in isolation or quarantine if imposed by the Kay County Health Department.  PCPS needs their students back in school; please help them get there on January 5, 2021.

Since the district moved to Distance Learning, they changed their feeding opportunities to four locations, and there’s no need to call in advance to order a meal. The serving locations are Garfield, Po-Hi, Union and West. Drive-through and walk-up meals are served from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. All meals are free for children 1-18 years of age. Children don;t have to be present, but adults must provide each child’s name.

If you or your child are having tech issues while on Distance Learning, please refer to the PCPS Technology Hub, https://bit.ly/3kYUnjh. The Tech Hub can help with the basics of Chromebooks, learn how to use Google Classroom, or request Tech Support for a device. Please call the office of the site your child attends if you need further assistance.
