Edmond woman killed in Logan County accident

A fatality collision occurred at 9:21 p.m. Sunday evening on Highway 74 and Highway 33, 1 mile north and  6.5 miles west of Guthrie in Logan County.

Alfonso Herrera, 36, of Enid was driving a 1991 Chevy Silverado northbound on Highway 74 when a  front driver side tire blew out. This caused Herrera’s vehicle to go left of center entering oncoming lanes and striking a 2020 Nissan Versa driven by Summer Jimenez, 22, of Harrah..

Jimenez had a passenger with her, Virginia Hill, 58, of Edmond, OK. Hill was transported by Miller EMS to Mercy Hospital in Guthrie, then Medi-flighted to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City. Hill was pronounced dead by medical professionals at OU Medical Center from injuries sustained in the collision to her head and trunk internal. As for Jimenez, she was transported by Miller EMS to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City. Admitted in fair condition with injuries to trunk internal.

Herrera was transported by Miller EMS top Baptist Hospital Oklahoma City for injuries to his left leg and right foot. He was not admitted. Herrera had two juvenile passengers with him that are both from Enid. A 12-year-old male who was transported by Miller EMS to OU Children’s in Oklahoma City and admitted in good condition with injuries to the truck and head external.  The other passenger was a 16-year-old male who was also transported by Miller EMS to OU Children’s Hospital in Oklahoma City. The 16-year-old was admitted in good condition with injuries to legs external.

Seat belts were equipped in both vehicles. They were in use for Herrera, but not in use for his two passengers. Jimenez and Hill both had seat belts in use. Both vehicles had airbags, but only Jimenez’s deployed.

The accident was investigated by Trooper Justin Taylor #701 of Troop A. Assisted by Lt. Alan Beaty #86 of Troop A. Also assisted by Guthrie Police Department and Miller EMS.
