SHARE NOW

Both Frontier basketball teams have earned a spot in the Class A State Tournament. This is the third straight year that both teams are making the trip to Oklahoma City  area for state tournament weekend. In the bracket set up by the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association (OSSAA), the Lady Mustangs will open State Tournament play on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. against Tipton at Southern Nazarene University in Bethany. The Frontier boys will play earlier that same day at 3:30 p.m. against Cyril at Mustang High School in Mustang. The scenario for the boys is that should they win they would play the semifinal game at 4:30 p.m. Friday at the State Fairgrounds Arena. The state championship game is scheduled for 1:45 p.m. Saturday.

Both teams advance to state by defeating Garber on Friday Night at the area tournament in Stroud. The girls team defeated Garber 75-39, while the boys claimed a 53-50 victory. In the girls game, the Lady Mustangs jumped out to a 21-6 lead at the end of the first quarter and expanded that to a 45-16 lead at halftime. Morgan Romero led Frontier’s scoring with 24 points. Marilyn Goodman had 14 points, Shelby Black with 11 points and Autumn Conneywerdy with 10 points.

The boys game was a much different game than what the girls had. It was a close game for the Mustangs as Garber led 18-12 at the end of the first quarter, but Frontier would fight back and take a 28-27 lead at halftime. The third quarter ended with Garber leading 42-39, but thanks to Frontier’s Conner Norman with 17 points, Brandon Warrior with 12 points and Dante Lightfoot with 11 points, Frontier was able to claim the hard-fought 53-50 victory.
