The National Weather Service offices in Norman and Tulsa have issued Heat Advisories for Kay, Osage and surrounding counties from noon today until 7 p.m. this evening.
Other counties under a Heat Advisory are Grant, Garfield, Noble, Kingfisher, Logan, Payne, Canadian, Oklahoma, Lincoln, Grady, McClain, Cleveland, Pottawatomie, Seminole, Hughes, Stephens, Garvin, Murray, Pontotoc, Coal, Jefferson, Carter, Johnston, Atoka, Love, Marshall, Bryan, Crawford, Franklin, Sebastian, Pushmataha, Choctaw, Washington OK, Nowata, Craig, Pawnee, Tulsa, Rogers, Mayes, Creek, Okfuskee, Okmulgee, Wagoner, Cherokee, Muskogee, McIntosh, Sequoyah, Pittsburg, Haskell, Latimer and Le Flore.
Heat index values 105 to 108 expected are portions of Oklahoma and Arkansas. High temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur.
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.
Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.
