Several Japanese students will visit Ponca City as part of a short-term exchange program sponsored by the Ponca City Rotary Club.
The students will arrive in Ponca on Wednesday and stay in the homes of Ponca City Rotary members. They will visit the town with their host families until leaving Saturday to stay with other Rotary members in Stillwater. The students will stay in the United States for two weeks during the visit.
Ponca City Rotarian Kelley Johnson, who has been involved in the “Wings of Rotary” program for several years, has said to host two or three students each year. Johnson said it is unique meeting new students and watching them grow.
The exchange program is part of the Ponca City Rotary Club’s public outreach effort and involves many non-Rotarians in the community. Some of the host families and those providing activities for the students are not members of the club. Johnson said the exchange gives non-members an opportunity to get involved and interact with Rotary, along with helping the visiting students.
