Johnson & Johnson vaccine paused in Oklahoma and Kansas

The Oklahoma State Department of Health announced Tuesday that they are aware of the FDA & CDC’s recommendation to pause administration of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine and all of vaccine sites in Oklahoma will follow this guidance.

This decision comes out of an abundance of caution after six cases of blood clot reactions have occurred nationwide out of nearly seven million doses of Johnson & Johnson vaccine administered.

At this time, OSDH has no reason to believe any Oklahomans have been affected by this rare response, but will continue to collect information and work closely with their partners to ensure the safety of Oklahomans.

Joining Oklahoma is the state of Kansas as KDHE announced Tuesday that they’ll also pause the Johnson & Johnson vaccine at all their vaccine sites.

The City-Cowley County Health Department will suspend the administration of J&J vaccine until such time as the FDA & CDC have concluded their investigation and can once again determine the use of the vaccine is safe.
