Kay County will have a recount of votes in the sheriff’s race. The recount will take place at the Kay County Courthouse in Newkirk beginning at 9 a.m. on Wednesday July 6. Candidate Tom Burg filed a recount petition last Friday. Burg finished second in the voting to Steve Kelley.
Kelley received just over 50 per cent of the vote which was necessary to avoid an August runoff election between the two. Kay County Election officials have indicated this is the first recount in over 20 years.
