The Oklahoma State Department of Health is reporting 499 new COVID-19 cases statewide on Monday, Feb. 22. Oklahoma’s seen 419,853 COVID-19 cases overall as 15,053 cases are active. The number of active cases is 303 less than Sunday.
Twenty-two virus-related deaths were documented on Monday, putting Oklahoma’s death toll to 4,203. This includes a Kay County male from Ponca City, a Noble County female and a Washington County male that were all in the 65 or older age group.
Kay County saw one new COVID-19 case on Monday, putting the county’s stats to 5,049 COVID-19 cases, 74 deaths and 4,809 recoveries. There are currently 166 active cases in the county.

OSDH is reporting more recoveries on Monday rather than new COVID-19 cases as there are 780 new recoveries, putting Oklahoma’s recovery total to 400,597. In order for a recovery to count, the recovered patient must not be deceased or hospitalized and it has been 14 days since their report.
There have been 681,466 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine administered in Oklahoma and that there are 204,069 completed series. The number of prime doses given is 477,397. There have also been 492,625 prime doses allocated and 400,925 boost doses allocated.

Starting today, the Oklahoma State Department of Health is starting to vaccinate the next high risk priority groups outlined in phase 2.
This includes:
- Oklahomans under 65 with comorbidities.
- Teachers and Staff in Pre-K-12 schools and educational settings.
Comorbid conditions outlined in the plan include but are not limited to hypertension, obesity, cardiovascular disease, Down syndrome, diabetes mellitus, chronic lung, liver or renal disease, cancers and those who are at high risk of mortality and severe morbidity resulting from a COVID infection.
The Kay County Health Department said in a recent Facebook update that they have chosen an overlapping approach to Oklahoma’s COVID vaccination plan. Though they’re moving forward with providing the vaccine to Pre-K-12 teachers and staff as well as Oklahomans with comorbidities, the vaccine is still available to those included in earlier phases, such as healthcare workers, people 65+ and LTC staff.
