The Oklahoma State Department of Health is reporting 5,232 new positive COVID-19 cases for Friday, Jan. 8. Oklahoma’s seen 320,586 COVID-19 cases overall as 37,453 cases are active.
A total of 31 virus-related deaths were documented on Friday to put Oklahoma’s death toll to 2,703. One in Kay County for a Ponca City male in the 65 or older age group. Logan County saw two deaths that included a male in the 65 or older age group and a female in the 18-35 age group. Others include a Pawnee County female and a Washington County male that were both in the 65 or older age group and an Osage County male in the 50-64 age group. It’s uncertain as to how many of the deaths occurred in the past 24 hours.
Kay County also saw an increase with 39 new COVID-19 cases, putting the county at 3,700 cases, 44 deaths and 3,130 recoveries. Data for Kay County communities is posted below:

As for new COVID-19 cases in local counties, there are 241 for Payne, 86 for Washington, 82 for Logan, 59 for Osage, 23 for Garfield, 17 for Pawnee, nine for Noble and four for Grant. Data for local counties is posted below:

OSDH also reported 2,602 new recoveries for Friday, putting Oklahoma’s recovery total to 280,430. In order for a recovery to count, the recovered patient must not be deceased or hospitalized and it has been 14 days since their report.
Health officials report that as of Friday, there have been 2,477,328 total negative test results, 18,418 hospitalizations and 1,961 people currently hospitalized due to COVID-19. There are 477 patients in ICU.
As of Friday, there have been 174,900 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine received across Oklahoma as 50,330 doses have been administered.
