Newkirk Hires New Football Coach

After leaving several years ago, one of the most successful football coaches at Newkirk High School is returning. The hiring of Sonny Schovanec  was approved by the Newkirk Board of Education last week.  In 1998, he led the Tigers to the state semi finals and had a 31-18 record reaching the playoffs three times.

He was the Head Football Coach at Oolagah for twelve seasons and most recently coached at Hennessey.  Schovanec coached four seasons  at Newkirk and replaces Bob Underwood who was not retained after five years.
