Newkirk woman killed in icy collision north of Guthrie

A fatality collision occurred at 4:13 a.m. Monday morning on Interstate 35 near mile marker 166 on the Cimarron River Bridge, approximately 7 miles north of Guthrie in Payne County.

A total of six vehicles were involved. One being a 2004 Chevy Venture van driven by Kelly Hillhouse, 51, of Newkirk. Hillhouse was pronounced dead at the scene from massive injuries. Hillhouse was also pinned for approximately 6 hours and was freed by the Guthrie Fire Department using the Hurst tool.

Other vehicles involve a  2011 Toyota Corolla driven by Vincent G. Dufek, 21, of Austin, TX. Dufek was transported by Guthrie EMS to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City where he was admitted in critical condition for head, arm, leg, trunk external, and trunk internal injuries. There was a 2014 Ford F-150 driven by Shelia Gates, 53, of Oklahoma City who was not injured. Gates’ passenger, Byron Warner, 26, of Oklahoma City was not injured. Another vehicle was a 2014 Freightliner driven by Gerardo Dominguez, 54, of El Paso, TX. who was not injured. Next was a 2019 International driven by Yusuf A. Mohamud, 37, of Saint Cloud, MN. who was not injured. The last vehicle to mention was a 2016 Peterbilt driven by Stephen S. Headley, 67, of Lebanon, MO. Headley was transported by LifeNet to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City where he was admitted in critical condition for head and trunk internal injuries.

Roadways were covered in ice during thee time of the accident which was a cause for the accident.
