King’s 42 points leads Mavs over Eastern
Behind Demaree King’s school record 12 3-pointers and 42 points, the Northern Oklahoma College Mavericks routed Eastern 125-79 Monday on sophomore night at Foster-Piper Fieldhouse in Tonkawa
The 9th ranked Mavs (26-3) improved to 12-3 in Region 2 play.
The Lady Mavs (3-24) fell to Eastern 69-61.

King was held to five points at halftime but exploded for 37 second half points to lead the Mavs.
“I am excited for Demaree,” said coach Donnie Jackson. “To make 12 3-pointers, break the school record, and score 42 on sophomore night, what a way to go out at home.”
Jackson was excited for all the sophomores including Deaveon Bankston, Barron Tanner, Andrew Gronigan, and King.
“What a great way to send the sophomore out,” he added. “I’m proud of all four sophomores and the contribution to the program. This group was 30-2 at home over two years, that’s impressive.”
Tyrel Morgan added 27 for the Mavs while Barron Tanner had 19 and JD Ray 11.
The Mavs play their final conference game Thursday at Seminole.
“We need to keep our focus and put our attention on Seminole,” Jackson said. “They are always tough at home and one of the best guards and bigs in our league. We need to keep our momentum going as region tournament play is right around the corner.”
Eastern 69, Lady Mavs 61
The Lady Mavs overcame an early 15-point deficit but lost to Eastern 69-61.
NOC trailed 15-0 to start the game but came all the way back to tie the game at 58-58 with 2:28 left.
Eastern then outscored the Lady Mavs 11-3 down the stretch to earn the 69-61 win.
Caitlyn Bailed the Lady Mavs with 14 while Radina Zhivachka had 13. Hannah Maples also reached double figures with 12.
“We had good play from Caitlin Bailey at point guard and good production from Radina Zhivachka and Kaylee Cline,” said coach Greg Krause. “I thought we showed good composure after taking a hard hit early. I felt like progress was made defensively. Caitlin did a nice job taking care of the ball and giving us opportunities to score. I think we gained a little traction heading into one more conference game and the playoffs.”
Sophomores Carlee Murray, Hannah Maples, Chideyah Guyton, and Ally Jennings were honored on sophomore night.
