NOC girls’ basketball camps announced

Applications are being accepted for the Lady Mavs girls’ summer basketball camps at Northern Oklahoma College Tonkawa, according to Coach Greg Krause, camp director.

In hopes that the current public health conditions improve, this summer’s camps have been rescheduled into July and will be commuter camps only.

A deposit is not necessary for early enrollment. If this summer’s camps are canceled due to the pandemic, refunds will be available.

Camp dates are July 6-9 for girls entering grades 7-12; July 20-22 for girls entering Grades K-3; and July 27-30 for girls entering grades 3-6. Grades K-3 camp runs from 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Grades 3-6 and Grades 7-12 camps run from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Cost for the K-3 camp is $75. Cost for the Grades 3-6 and Grades 7-12 camp is $150. Girls entering Grade 3 may register for either Grades 1-3 camp, Grades 3-6 camp, or both camps.

Basics such as dribbling, passing, defensive and varied offensive skills will be introduced in each session. Regulation size goals and lowered goals will be available for Grades K-3. Grades 3-6 and Grades 7-12 sessions include mass drills, station drills, and transition drills. Competitions including one-on-one, two-on-two, three-on-three, free throw contest, and league games are also part of the schedule.

“Our camps are designed to help the girls learn the basics of shooting, dribbling and passing, as well as other fundamental skills of basketball. We also apply those skills within a team structure as each of the girls is also a member of a team for the week. Basketball teaches the value of improving as an individual, as well as committing to what’s best for the team.”

Each girl will receive two T-shirts and a regulation size camp basketball.

Krause is the head women’s coach at NOC Tonkawa and has directed the camp since 1985.

Currently, NOC plans to open the Tonkawa campus in July but is subject to change depending on CDC guidelines for Covid-19.
