One man is dead and another hospitalized following an officer-involved shooting in Ponca City.
The Communication Center of the Ponca City Police Department received a 911 call just after 6am this morning reporting that a delivery man had been assaulted by a subject with what was believed to be a tire iron at the West Grand Valero. After an investigation, the weapon the man was carrying was discovered to be a machete.
Police arrived two minutes later. The subject, who was still armed, confronted Officers. He was shot multiple times and has died. He has been identified as 31-year-old Ian Shea King.
The delivery man was transported from the scene with non-life threatening injuries.
At this point, officials are not releasing other details related to the shooting.
The Ponca City Police Department requested the OSBI to investigate the shooting. Agents will submit a report to Kay County prosecutors. This report will determine whether the shooting was justified.
