One person was killed and two people were left injured following a fatal accident that occurred at 7:51 a.m. Saturday morning at the intersection of east Kildare Road and north Prentice road, about 1.5 miles east of Kildare.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Kennisue J. Hopkins, 51, of Newkirk, was driving a 2005 Chevrolet pickup north on Prentice Road when she reportedly failed to yield at a stop sign and struck a 2016 Cadillac Escalade driven by Raegan N. Cannon, 21, Blackwell.
According to troopers, Hopkins was pronounced dead on the scene.
As for the others involved, Cannon was airlifted to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas where was admitted in stable condition with head, arm, leg, trunk external and internal injuries.
Her passenger, Maggie Brown, 21, of Blackwell, was transported by Medi-Flight to St. Francis in Tulsa where she is admitted in stable condition with head, trunk external and leg Injuries.
OHP reports that the impact of the collision caused Hopkins’ vehicle to departed the roadway to right, striking a bridge railing and a traffic sign, before coming to rest on the north side of Kildare Road and becoming fully engulfed in flames. Hopkins was pinned approximately six hours before being extricated by Newkirk Fire Department.
Troopers report the conditions of both drivers are under investigation and the cause of the accident is cited as failure to yield. Both Cannon and Brown were wearing their seatbelts.
The accident was investigated by Trooper Chris Vaughan K832 of the Noble/Kay County Detachment of Troop K. Assisted by Trooper Matt Stacy K889, Traffic Homicide Unit. Also assisted by Kay County Sheriff’s Office, Kildare Fire Department, Newkirk Police Department, Newkirk Fire Department/EMS and Ponca City Fire Department/EMS.
