OSBI Investigating Death of Ponca City Man In Stun Gun Incident

PONCA CITY, Okla. (AP) — The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is looking into the death of a man who died a day after Ponca City police used a stun gun on him.

Police say 56-year-old Roger Bales died July 1 in a Ponca City hospital. Police say an officer had stopped Bales for driving with a broken tail light and that Bales ran from the scene.

The officer chased Bales about one block before using a stun gun on him. Bales was taken to a Ponca City hospital where he died.

OSBI spokeswoman Jessica Brown says the agency is awaiting an autopsy report from the state medical examiner.

Bales’ daughter, Lindsey Bales, told KFOR that the stun gun was unnecessary because her father had various health issues that prevented him from running far.
