The Oklahoma State Department of Health released their weekly epidemiology report.
Data shows that throughout the week of August 22-28, 19,645 new COVID-19 cases, 16,308 recoveries and 189 deaths were documented. Since early 2020, 31,855 individuals in the state have been hospitalized due to COVID. CDC COVID Data Tracker lists that 62,117 individuals have been tested in the last 7 days. The average age of cases was 40 years and average age of individuals who died was 74 years. The youngest case was less than a year old while the oldest case was 100+ years. The youngest to die from COVID was less than 15 years while the oldest to die was 100+ years.
From August 24-30, 96,011 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine were administered. This includes at least 44,895 rounds of the first dose and 44,543 Oklahomans becoming fully vaccinated. As of Wednesday, September 1, 1,734,367 Oklahomans are fully vaccinated.
For Kay County, 48.7% of the population has received at least one dose of the vaccine while 39.1% is fully vaccinated. For fully vaccinated percentages for surrounding counties, Grant is at 40.1%, Garfield at 45.4%, Noble at 57.5%, Pawnee at 45.5% and Osage at 30.2%.
Throughout the month of August, the amount of vaccinated people who got COVID, also referred to as “Breakthrough Cases” was 2,850. The number of unvaccinated COVID-19 cases to occur in August was 55,729.
As of August, the Delta variant has been the dominant form of COVID at Oklahoma’s with 2,900 cases since January. As for other variants since January, there have been 469 of the Alpha variant, 7 of the Beta variant, 24 of the Gamma variant2 of the Eta variant, 15 of the Iota variant, 1 of the Kappa variant and 44 of the Lambda variant.
