The Oklahoma State Department of Health is reporting 1,146 new positive COVID-19 cases for Thursday, Feb. 25. Oklahoma has seen 422,156 COVID-19 cases overall dating back to last March. The number of active COVID-19 cases dropped by 43 from Wedneday as there are 13,544 COVID-19 cases active statewide on Thursday.
A total of 38 virus-related deaths were documented Thursday to put Oklahoma’s death toll at 4,302. This includes two Garfield County men, one Logan County man, one Noble County woman, one Pawnee County man and one Washington County male that were all in the 65 or older age group.
Kay County saw 10 new COVID-19 case on Thursday, putting the county’s stats to 5,064 COVID-19 cases, 75 deaths and 4,836 recoveries. There are currently 153 active cases in the county, which is four more than Wednesday.

As for new cases in local counties, there are 54 for Logan, 23 for Garfield, 12 for Osage, eight for Washington, five for Payne, four each for Noble and Pawnee and one for Grant. Data for local counties is posted below:

OSDH is reporting 1,151 new recoveries for Thursday. Oklahoma’s recovery total is now at 404,310. In order for a recovery to count, the recovered patient must not be deceased or hospitalized and it has been 14 days since their report.
There have been 681,466 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine administered in Oklahoma and that there are 204,069 completed series. The number of prime doses given is 477,397. There have also been 492,625 prime doses allocated and 400,925 boost doses allocated.

As of Monday, Feb. 22, the Oklahoma State Department of Health is starting to vaccinate the next high risk priority groups outlined in phase 2.
This includes:
- Oklahomans under 65 with comorbidities.
- Teachers and Staff in Pre-K-12 schools and educational settings.
Comorbid conditions outlined in the plan include but are not limited to hypertension, obesity, cardiovascular disease, Down syndrome, diabetes mellitus, chronic lung, liver or renal disease, cancers and those who are at high risk of mortality and severe morbidity resulting from a COVID infection.
The Kay County Health Department said in a recent Facebook update that they have chosen an overlapping approach to Oklahoma’s COVID vaccination plan. Though they’re moving forward with providing the vaccine to Pre-K-12 teachers and staff as well as Oklahomans with comorbidities, the vaccine is still available to those included in earlier phases, such as healthcare workers, people 65+ and LTC staff.
