Park In A Handicap Space Illegally? Expect A Citation

PRESS RELEASE

From City of Ponca City

Citations will be written when a vehicle is found parked in a properly marked parking space, designated for those with physical disabilities, and no placard or proper license plate is visible.  Placards need to be displayed so they are easily visible.

Police Chief Don Bohon says “We encourage all citizens to comply with the law as it pertains to parking in these designated spaces.” The Oklahoma State Statute on Special Parking Privileges for Physically Disabled Persons is in Title 47 Section 15-111. “Not only is it illegal to park in a space designated for physically disabled persons without the proper placard or license plate, but it makes it difficult or even impossible for disabled people to access services and businesses that they need,” Bohon added.
