HomeLocalPonca PostPawnee man killed in accident near MorrisonPawnee man killed in accident near MorrisonTue, July 7, 2020 by Jake GoodmanSHARE NOW A fatality collision occurred at 2:13 p.m. Tuesday on U.S. 177 near Harvest Road southbound, approximately 3.45 miles southwest of Morrison in Noble County.Dennis R. Southern, 68, of Pawnee, was driving a 1997 Chevy truck southbound on U.S. 177. A 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by George A. Deweese Jr., 29, of Ponca City, was stopped southbound on U.S. 177 by a Department of Transportation authorized flagman where the road was shut down to one lane. Southern’s vehicle struck the rear of Deweese’s vehicle, entered the northbound lane, and was struck head on by a 2011 Cadillac Escalade driven by Anita D. Casey, 36, of Ponca City.Southern was pinned for an unknown amount of time and was extricated by Stillwater Fire Department using the Hurst tool. He was pronounced dead at the scene by LifeNet Emergency Medical Services with head, trunk, internal, and external injuries.Deweese suffered trunk external and arm injuries, but refused treatment on scene. Casey had external arm and leg injuries and also refused treatment on scene.The accident was investigated by Trooper Derek Fry #298 of the Payne/Noble County Detachment of Troop K. Assisted by Lieutenant David Owen #178 of Troop S, Trooper Steven Warlick #499 of Troop YA, Trooper Brandon Harmon #506 of Troop YA, Trooper Tyler Langston #609 of the Kay/Noble County Detachment of Troop K, and Trooper Christopher Vaughan #832 of the Kay/Noble County Detachment of Troop K, Stillwater Fire Department, Morrison Fire Department, Noble County Sheriff Department, and LifeNet Emergency Medical Services.
