Last week, a total of 21 positive in-school COVID-19 cases were reported for Ponca City Public Schools, which was an increase from 18 cases the previous week. The week of Nov. 16 reflected the highest number of COVID-19 cases the district has experienced in one week.

The COVID Alert System Risk Level increased this week from 68.6 – Red Level High Risk to 85.5 – Red Level High Risk. The last two weeks were the first weeks Kay County moved into the Red Level High Risk of the State Department of Education’s Risk Level map. The Red Level High Risk reflects an average of 50 new cases a day based on a 7-day rolling average per-capita of 100,000. Based on Kay County’s population, the trigger to move into the Red Level High Risk is a weekly average of 21.77 new cases per day. These alarmingly high rates have impacted the PCPS district.

Ponca City High School switched to distance learning on Nov. 11, and as of Nov. 19, the entire school district is now going towards distance learning until Dec. 18.

PCPS reminds you to please wear a mask and to follow health and safety guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
