The following is a press release from Ponca City Public Schools on Wednesday, April 22. Details about graduation are provided

Senior Families:

It is important to schedule some dates for senior traditions that have been long-standing and to replicate as much normalcy as possible during this global pandemic based on the current guidelines for large public gatherings. Without doubt, this situation changes continually, so we have put together the best possible options to celebrate the PCPS Seniors of 2020 with date confirmations that meet the requirements of the Governor, the Oklahoma State Department of Education, and the Center for Disease Control.

  • On the original date of graduation, May 15, 2020, we are going to present a Senior Celebration Video at 8:00 PM via Facebook Live. Information regarding the location of the Facebook Live video will be provided as we get closer to the event. Each Senior of 2020 will be highlighted with the senior Lifetouch photo and one photo of the senior’s choosing such as a baby picture, an activity picture, a family picture, or other appropriate photo choice. Senior students: Be sure to stay connected to your student Gmail account to be informed of details and how to provide the additional photo of your choice. Your principals and counselors will continue to communicate with you as well. In addition, scholarship recipients will be recognized during the celebration video.
  • We will host a traditional graduation ceremony on two dates depending on gathering limitations and guidelines. These two dates are the evening of Friday, June 26, 2020, and Saturday, June 27, 2020. If gathering limitations are restricted, we will host the graduation in several groups. If guidelines are confirmed, Seniors will be accommodated on the date of their choice, June 26 or June 27, 2020. However, please be advised the plans for these dates could be modified due to COVID-19 restrictions outside our control.
  • Students will be contacted via school Gmail or calls from counselors and principals to collect graduation regalia curbside in the next few days. If you need to order caps and gowns, please refer to the Jostens Order Link on the Ponca City High School webpage at www.pcps.us or call principals or counselors with questions.

There are other plans we will inform you of soon, but the above dates need to be confirmed so families may begin making plans.

Our Wildcat Family is so proud of all the PCPS Seniors of 2020, and we are devastated they are not experiencing all the typical traditions deserving of every senior in the nation. We consider each of our students as members of our own family, and there is NOTHING we would rather do than take away some of their pain by offering all traditional senior activities. However, for the health and safety of our students, families, and community, we will continue to abide by the Governor’s orders and CDC guidelines. We love our Seniors, miss them dearly, and look forward to the day we can see them in person, even if it is in small groups.

Sincerely,

Shelley Arrott Superintendent Ponca City Public Schools
