The Ponca City Senior High School Steppers brought home three National Championships at the National/International Championship competition held this month at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. Ponca City Public School’s Po-Hi Stepper coach Kristin Smith was named Outstanding Director again this year; this is the 5th time she has won this award.
This is the largest drill team national competition in the country. Smith reported, “The girls performed very well against some incredibly tough competition and represented Ponca City High School with class and dignity. I am very proud of them and consider myself lucky to coach such a great group of girls.”
As a team, the HI-Steppers won 3rd place in the Kick category, 2nd place in the Military category, 2nd place in the Prop category, and 4th place in the Pom category. The team placed 7th in the Medium Team Division. Po-Hi freshman Bailey James was named to the National Junior Kick Company, an award given to the girls with the best kicks at the competition.
The Hi-Stepper Officers were named National Champion in Officer Kick, National Champion in Officer Pom, and National Champion in Officer Military. The Ponca City Officer team placed 2nd in the Medium Team Officer category.
