It was a Saturday in September, 1893. Folks ready at the Kansas State Line as the Cherokee Outlet opened up that day at high noon. As people crossed into Oklahoma to claim properties, different communities sparked across the 200 mile-wide stretch in Northern Oklahoma. One of those communities founded on September 16, 1893 was Ponca City.
Visit downtown Ponca City this Friday Night to celebrate the community’s 125th birthday in front of the Vet Plaza at 4th & Grand. The celebration will feature live music from Band #9, Native American performers and Ciara Brook will be performing the National Anthem and Oklahoma. An old-fashioned birthday party with hotdogs, cupcakes, popcorn, pop, water and beer. The City of Ponca City will be featuring the musical Oklahoma at dusk on the outdoor big screen.
