The city of Ponca City will be hosting its first ever Professional Disc Golf Association “A-Tire” disc golf tournament scheduled for May 4 and 5. Organizers believe could possibly bring in some of the biggest names in disc golf. The tournament is sponsored by the 2 on 1 Disc Golf Company, owned by Ponca City resident Tyler Smith, along with the Ponca City Disc Golf Club.
The tournament will include three rounds and 54 holes that encompass Bois D’arc, Lake Ponca Open, Willow Springs and the Wentz Golf Course. According to Ponca City News, Smith said that the event is going to be one of only about 100 A-tier tournaments in the United States and could be a major boon to Ponca City.
Disc golf has become a fast-growing sport across the United States, and has become a major part in the recreational scene in Ponca City over the past five years and encourages newcomers. Smith also believes that the tournament could possibly bring in around 300 competitors for this year’s tournament.
$7,000 in prize money will be up for grabs at the tournament which could possibly bring in more pros. Including Austin Hannun of Perry, who is beginning his pro tour later this month.
