Read Across America Week Set for Ponca City Public Schools

March 2 is National Read Across American Day, a day to celebrate literacy. This date was established by the National Education Association (NEA) in 1998 to help students of all ages get excited about reading. The day occurs each year on the birthday of beloved children’s book author Dr. Seuss.

The Ponca City Public School District has set aside March 1-5, 2021 as Read Across America Week. Students, parents, and teachers across the district will be donning their Dr. Seuss gear and reading famous titles, such as: One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish; Oh The Places You’ll Go; and Fox In Socks.

While this event came about due to Dr. Seuss and the impact his books have had on children throughout the years, his books are not the only ones highlighted. During National Read Across America Week, students, teachers, parents, and community members around Ponca City and the nation come together to read books and celebrate the joy of reading.
