Road work beginning Monday on I-35 Salt Fork River Bridge near Tonkawa

Northbound and Southbound Interstate 35 will be narrowed down to one lane in each direction between U.S. 60(mm 214) west of Tonkawa and State Highway 15(mm 203) east of Billings in Kay County starting at 8 a.m. on Monday, June 29, going until further notice.

According to the Ponca City News, bridge rehabilitation work will take place over the Salt Fork Arkansas River. Drivers should plan ahead and allow extra travel time throughout the corridor as the project is expected to be a year long.

The work is focused on repairing the substructures of the bridges and bridge joints. While motorists may not be able to see the work at times, the lane closures are necessary to help protect the crews and equipment working underneath the bridge.

The nearly $2 million contract was awarded in February 2020 by the Oklahoma Transportation Commission to Logos Construction Co. LLC of Sapulpa. Work is expected to continue through summer 2021.
