Traffic Stop by Sheriffs Department Nets Drugs

The Kay County Sheriff reports a traffic stop yesterday on I-35 south of Tonkawa led to arrests for trafficking in meth and conspiracy to traffic in controlled dangerous substances. Kay County Deputy Jon Stieber conducted a traffic stop for a driving violation.

Deputy Stieber’s suspisioned drug activity due to the actions of the driver and passenger and a history of recent drug related activity and deployed his canine partner who alerted to the possibility of narcotics inside the vehicle.

Approximately 61.9 grams of methamphetamine and more than 4 grams of marijuana along with several baggies, scales, drug paraphernalia and pills was found by the Deputy.

Both the driver, Alma Mendoza and passenger, Shanie Gaston were arrested for Trafficking in CDS (meth) and Conspiracy to Traffic in controlled dangerous substances.

Both subjects were transported to the Kay County Detention Center.
