The National Weather Service in Norman has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Grant and Garfield counties in northern Oklahoma from 6 p.m. New Year’s Eve Thursday until noon on New Year’s Day Friday.
Other counties included in the warning at this time are Woods, Alfalfa, Ellis, Woodward, Major, Dewey, Custer, Blaine, Washita, Caddo and Kiowa. Including the cities of Alva, Cherokee, Helena, Carmen, Medford, Pond Creek, Lamont, Wakita, Shattuck, Arnett, Gage, Fargo, Woodward, Fairview, Enid, Seiling, Vici, Taloga, Leedey, Weatherford, Clinton, Watonga, Geary, Okeene, Cordell, Burns Flat, Sentinel, Anadarko, Hinton, Hobart, and Snyder. Kay and Noble counties are currently under a Winter Weather Advisory that goes from 6 p.m. this evening until noon Friday.
Heavy mixed precipitation is expected to start Thursday evening as 3 to 6 inches of snow is likely in the warned area along with 35 mph wind gusts possible. Areas from Anadarko to Oklahoma City and up towards Enid and Ponca City could also see .10 to .25 inch of ice. See graph from the National Weather Service below:
