A woman that was convicted as an accessory to murder after her son stabbed a Blackwell police officer to death has recently been released from prison after serving only six years of a 20-year sentence.
According to the Blackwell Journal Tribune, Atocha Maria Beltran, the mother of convicted murderer Luis Frias, was released on Feb. 13. The family of the victim, Janett Reyna, learned of Beltran’s release last week. Beltran is currently on probation under the supervision of the Department of Correction’s Northwest District Office in Enid. Frias was charged with first degree murder on August 9, 2013, and was captured again by the U.S. Marshall’s Service on Feb. 9, 2019 in Mexico.
Beltran was arrested and charged with accessory to murder. She was convicted in July 2014 and sentenced to 20 years in prison. Neshia Niemeyer also pled guilty to an accessory charge, but she was given a 10-year suspended sentence in exchange for testimony against Frias.
