First Cases of Zika Virus Confirmed In Oklahoma


Several sources are reporting that two Oklahomans have contracted the Zika virus while traveling abroad.  The information has now been confirmed by the State Health Department.  Authorities say that the virus is transmitted primarily through the bite of an infected mosquito.   A report from says the virus can also be transmitted through sexual contact or from mother to unborn child.

The site also reports, “Health officials said that mosquitoes in Oklahoma are not currently carriers of Zika virus and the risk of contracting Zika virus is for people traveling to affected countries.”
