A 23 year old Stillwater man is dead after a crash in Payne County.
Layne Meriwether was pronounced dead at the scene 4 miles west of Stillwater.
Highway Patrol Troopers say Meriwether was eastbound on State Highway 51 when he left the roadway and struck a tree. He was pinned in his vehicle for over an hour. He was then extracted by the Stillwater Fire Department with Jaws of Life and shredder tools.
The condition of the driver and the cause of the collision remains under investigation.
The incident was investigated by Trooper JJ Finney #519 of the Payne County Detachment of Troop K, assisted by LT. Gabe Leach #167, Trooper Todd Punneo #358 of Troop YA, Payne County Sheriff’s Office, Stillwater Fire Department, and Life Net EMS.
