A drowning death investigation is still ongoing in Arkansas City, Kansas.
60-year old Eddie Zink died and others required rescue along the Arkansas River in that town in Cowley County.
Zink’s canoe had capsized in strong current, sending him and a child under water. The child was quickly recovered, thanks to his wearing a flotation device. Zink remained under for several minutes. Efforts to revive him failed.
Local emergency crews had to take to boats to perform the rescue.
They, yesterday, a sighting at the river brought emergency crews out again. A woman called 911, claiming that her child had seen someone floating face-up in the river. Visual scans from the river bridge and deployment of a flat-bottomed boat were unsuccessful. First responders later said that, thankfully, it appeared to be a false alarm.
