Chad and Tiata Rogers are one step closer to being legal…in a porcine sense.
The Newkirk couple shares their home with a pet ‘mini-pig’. However, current city regs don’t allow swine to be housed within the city limits.
That may change after city commissioners asked attorney Tom Rigdon to draft a new ordinance. It would allow for mini-pigs to be kept as pets with the city’s borders. Some of the suggested items for the ordinance may include:
that the animal be registered with the American Mini Pig Association;
that the animal be vaccinated and spayed or neutered;
that the animal live in an enclosed area, and;
that the animal would not be used for breeding and sales.
City commissioners plan to vote the ordinance in the future.
