OCC Reacts To Earthquake Activity

SHARE NOW

Earthquakes in Oklahoma appear to be increasing in frequency and intensity, and that is getting the attention of the Oklahoma Corporation Commission.

In a letter released today, the Commission requested the shutdown of two wastewater disposal wells in the Luther and Wellston area. This appears to be in response to the recent tremors of 3.7 and 3.9 this past week. The wells are owned by New Dominion LLC, and the Hulen Operating Company.

The commission wants volumes at 19 other area wells to be reduced, as well.

The underground disposal of wastewater from oil and gas production has the scientific community buzzing. Scientists believe the earthquake increases, especially in intensity, are linked to the disposal.
