Ponca City Man Injured While ‘Racing’ At Airport


Personal injury collision occurred 12/7/16 at approximately 2233 hours at the Blackwell/Tonkawa Municipal Airport, approximately 3 miles north and 2 miles west of Tonkawa, OK in Kay County.

Vehicle-1: 2014 Chevrolet Camaro driven by James Kice (SIC), white male, age 37, of Ponca City, OK. Transported by Tonkawa EMS to Blackwell Regional Hospital. Then taken by an unknown ambulance to Wesley Hospital in Wichita, KS. Admitted in stable condition with trunk internal and trunk external injuries.

What Happened- Vehicle 1 was racing southbound on the runway at the airport. Vehicle 1 failed to stop at the end of the runway and continued southbound and impacted a berm. Vehicle 1 then went into an end over end roll for an undetermined amount of times, coming to a rest on its wheels approximately 700’ south of the runway.
