New scholarships established through the Northern Oklahoma College Foundation are the Hullet Family Scholarship Fund and the Nevona Kegans Scholarship Fund, according to Kirby Tickel-Hill, director of development and donor relations.
Judy Hullet and Connie Mack Hullet attended Northern after graduating from Tonkawa High School in the 1970s. Judy was active in Student Senate and in Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and ran hurdles for the college women’s track team. Connie Mack returned to NOC as a dorm parent in Markley Hall and served as Assistant Dean of Students as well as Student Senate advisor for 20 years. Pat McAleer Hullet taught in the Social Science Division for more than 35 years, serving as faculty president and scholarship chair. She was one of the first distance learning instructors and developed online courses for World Geography.
“Through the generous support of Judy Hullet Wear and Connie Mack and Patricia McAleer Hullet, the establishment of this permanently restricted endowed scholarship fund will provide students from Oklahoma an opportunity to pursue their educational goals at Northern Oklahoma College on the Tonkawa campus,” Tickel-Hill said.
The recipient must be a graduate of an Oklahoma high school and a full-time or part-time female non-traditional student who has completed 12 academic college credit hours.
Kegans is proud to establish a permanently restricted endowed scholarship fund to benefit a student participating in the athletic training program at NOC Tonkawa. The recipient must be a sophomore pursuing the Athletic Training option for Health, Physical Education and Recreation.
A 1961 alumna of Northern Oklahoma Junior College, Kegans was a member of the Mavettes drill team and of the women’s basketball team and served as dorm proctor in Easterling Hall. She returned to her alma mater in 1963 where she served in many capacities within the athletic and student affairs departments. She was instrumental in establishing the athletic training program at Northern and retired as Dean of Women and Health, Physical Education and Recreation Division chair after serving the institution for 40 years. “Nevona’s commitment to Northern and continued support will provide students a chance to pursue their higher educational goals at Northern Oklahoma College,” Tickel-Hill said.
Both scholarships will be awarded beginning in Fall 2017.
